It is the twenty-fourth installment in the Need for Speed series, and it marks the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Critics gave the game mixed reviews, deeming it an improvement over the 2015 Need for Speed reboot and Payback, but not enough to represent a complete return to form for the brand. Heat was Ghost Games' final game as a primary developer and for the Need for Speed franchise.
