As a baby, he was orphaned and he grew up in a variety of orphanages run by the Shaftesbury Homes. As a student, his peers and teachers realized that he had acting talent and that he was destined to pursue acting as a career. Barry Evans began acting in school plays and upon graduation, he decided to move to London to further study acting. He eventually studied at the Italia Conti Academy as well as the Central School of Speech and Drama. He began his career in the late 60s and worked simultaneously in film and television. While he had a variety of roles, he was best known for his comedic work. His youthful looks, handsome face, and charming demeanor made him perfect for many of the roles he received and he created some of the most popular characters of his time. He was best known for his role as Mr. Jeremy Brown on the sitcom “Mind Your Language” – where he played an English teacher trying to teach the language to immigrants. He was also known for his lead role in the “Doctor in the House” series and his lead role in the sex comedy film “Adventures of a Taxi Driver.” But this was not to last and as he got older, Barry Evans career began to decline.
