Learn how Kangding Ray creates complex, non-repeating modular sequences using overlapping Euclidean patterns. Kangding Ray demonstrates a generative sequencing technique built from four independent sequences, four VCOs, envelopes, low pass gates, quantised pitch randomisation, and synced modulation. Rather than using traditional polyrhythms, the patch is based on overlapping Euclidean cycles with different lengths, creating patterns that feel organic, evolving, and difficult for the ear to predict. The lesson starts by tuning four oscillators to the same tonal centre, then assigning each voice a different sound character using wavetable, supersaw, triangle, and other oscillator settings. Each voice is triggered by its own Euclidean sequence, with cycle lengths such as 11, 7, 9, and 13 steps, creating long-form interactions between the parts. Kangding Ray then adds randomised pitch information, quantised to a Japanese scale, turning the patch into a self-generating harmonic system. With envelopes, low pass gates, synced LFOs, effects, and delay added to the patch, the result becomes a dense, shifting “magma” of related notes that feels composed by the system itself.
