Molasses Whole Wheat Bread (Hand Kneaded)
Molasses gives this loaf a magnificent taste and aroma. If you are going to mix/knead the dough in a stand mixer, just fast forward through my hand-kneading segment! The ingredients, which I adapted from a King Arthur Flour recipe, are listed below: Ingredients for one 8- by 4-inch loaf: 1 cup warm (about 105°F) water 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast (active dry or instant) 1/4 cup vegetable oil or shortening 1/4 cup molasses 3 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour, spooned and leveled 1/4 cup non-fat dry milk 1 1/4 teaspoons salt Oven temperature: 350°F Baking time: 35-40 minutes (or until a digital thermometer inserted into the center of the loaf registers at least 190°F)
