Shipbuilding in Barrow | Cumbria Archives History Day 📜 Barrow-in-Furness is now known as the Home of Submarine building but the earliest shipbuilding companies built wooden schooners in small yards along Walney Channel. The forerunner of BAE Systems was established in 1871.
