Smooth Moves - Young peoples experiences of living in supported accommodation with New Roots
Funded by the Department for Education (DfE), the Staying Close programme supports young people who are ready to move out of their residential (children’s) home. They are supported to find and settle into a new home, build relationships with staff and peers, and develop independence skills - whilst 'staying close' to the people and places they already know. In Nottinghamshire, the Staying Close Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) help to build links between residential homes and Supported Accommodation Provision through the Smooth Moves project. Using a co-production approach, Young People have been sharing their personal experiences of moving from a residential home into Supported Accommodation. This work will enable children currently living in residential homes to understand what a move might be like with the aim of supporting their positive move towards independence and adulthood.
