We Got STRANDED on Our Way Back to CHINA 🇨🇳 I S3, EP27
We finally arrive in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, a surprisingly modern city and often considered the most modern city in Central Asia. Known for its wide boulevards and Soviet-era architecture, Tashkent is home to the iconic Hotel Uzbekistan, where we spent our first night in the capital. Beyond its modern appearance, Tashkent also holds a unique world record, it is home to the largest plov (pilaf) ever made, one of Uzbekistan’s most famous traditional dishes. From there, we continue our journey into the Fergana Valley, one of the most fertile and culturally rich regions of the country. Our plan was to visit Sokh, an Uzbek exclave surrounded by Kyrgyzstan. However, visiting Sokh as a foreigner turned out to be far more complicated than expected, so we had to change plans. As winter approached, we pushed on through Kyrgyzstan, eventually crossing back into China. For the final stretch to the Chinese border, snow and ice made the road too dangerous to ride, forcing us to load our bikes onto a truck and finish the journey safely.
