Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Freight First time UK and by train
Well... 495 km, 3 borders, and a 7-hour drive... 30 minutes by train... Today I wasn't really talking, and for most of the day I was pretty shaky and had sticky hands... oh yeah, and almost dehydrated from the stress. But we're on the other side of the Channel. This went much faster than my last crossing 7 years ago. Back then, I swore I would never, ever drive a car here again. But well... I really want a new badge on my grill. So all that fear has to go for a while. Step by step, I've broken this trip down in my head to make it easier. So, first the train. To all the lovely people who supported me with advice, knowledge, and wisdom. I love you all, but in my world, nothing is self-explanatory. Because we were already lost in the train terminal parking lot, we circled the roundabout six times, and finally decided to look for help to find the train. My sincere thanks go out to the help I received... Once you're in the right lane, you simply follow the others. And that means we're the last. A kind man with a sign marked "8" at a ticket booth looked at me with surprise when I stopped. "Good man, I'm here for the first time, so what do you mean by that 8?" Of course... lane 8, lane 8... And then it comes... the train... that was perhaps the easiest part of the day. A good high-up, taking all the space, and a good guess because there's no room to swerve. Before I even realized we were on the train, someone was already knocking on my door, wanting to peek inside, and I had to get out. I was practically out of there in my socks as fast as I could... See you later, buddy, I'll see you on the other side. Put in a van and off we went... The carriage... Everyone from the vans into the carriages. SHOOT... someone had so kindly told me, "Watch out for the driver in front of you, because you have to get back in the right van with that man later." Well, I've lost him, forgotten him. The man apparently didn't impress me. 30 minutes underground and an hour backward. On the way, I did get to chat with a driver. He didn't sense my fear because he started asking me what to do. Unfortunately, I'm no good to you. I'm just trying to survive and copy what everyone else is doing. The other side... Train stops, doors open, two vans... I stand there, my eyes wide open, and I'm soon saved from making a mistake when a driver from Hungary grabbed my arm and pulled me into the van. YOU BELONG HERE... my gratitude is immense. Hey buddy, I'm so glad to see you again... Don't forget... changing the country code... With all the hassle of lanes and ticket booths still fresh in my memory, we bump along the train at a leisurely 10 km/h maximum. We're going 4 km/h... Once back on the asphalt, our neighbor sprints off, we join him and slowly follow him... We turn right... no ticket booth, barrier, or anything... NO... Just straight onto the highway... Well, then it's GO WITH THE F... FLOW
