'Had No Choice,' Says Manual Scavenger Who Cleaned Dry Toilets for 40 Years in Meerut | The Quint

The Quint spoke to Santosh, a #Dalit woman, who worked as a #manualscavenger for 40 years until 2022, when the government rehabilitated her. She lives in #Meerut. Santosh reveals how she had no option but to clean dry toilets, how she raised her seven children, and why she wants a different future for them. It is to be noted that dry toilets and their cleaning was banned in India in 1993. Then how is this practice still going on? Watch the full video to know. Support The Quint's independent journalism.
