Is it possible that this bike is TOO American? That depends if you are familiar with the streamline styling also called streamline moderne, or art moderne. Streamlining was a reaction to art deco styling. Streamlining took its cues from the German werkbund which was an association of craftsmen. Streamlining represented progress and was used throughout Western Europe and the Eastern US in the 1930s through the 1950s. Cars, planes, buildings, and even household items were designed to look aerodynamic as if they were moving sleekly. So you can see the influence in the Indian Chief. Is it TOO American? Not at all, it has an elegance that was born almost 80 years ago and remains today. It may have been associated with America due to the Indian brand but the style is nevertheless a worldly one that draws attention of the people.
