Bank of England Interest Rate Decision June 2026 - My Take

UK inflation fell more sharply than expected to 2.8% in April, but the Bank of England still expects the energy shock to push it back to around 3.3% this summer. At its April meeting the MPC voted 8–1 to hold Bank Rate at 3.75%, with Chief Economist Huw Pill favouring an immediate rise to 4%. All 65 economists in the latest Reuters poll expect another hold on June 18, although nearly 40% now anticipate at least one rate rise before the end of the year. With the economy shrinking by 0.1% in April and unemployment already at 5%, the Bank must balance renewed inflation pressure against a weakening economy.
