E só isso que falta pra TRANSNORDESTINA?
Announced in 2006 with a projected completion date of 2010, the Transnordestina railway dragged on for almost 20 years, synonymous with delays, suspended contracts, and stalled construction. But something unexpected happened: for the first time in its troubled history, the railway has been partially operating since December 2025, transporting real cargo while progressing towards its final completion in 2026-2028. The overall physical progress is at 71%, with Phase 1 reaching 80% completion. Of the total 1,753 km, 727 km have already been completed. Of the R$ 14.9 billion investment, approximately R$ 11.3 billion has already been spent. In January 2026, 946.12 tons of sorghum were transported from Piauí to Iguatu (CE) in just 16 hours and 34 minutes — proving that it is no longer a promise, but a functioning reality. In Ceará, in December 2025, the Transnordestina railway had 100% of its works authorized after the signing of lots 9 and 10 — these are 97 km with an investment of R$ 942 million and completion scheduled for August 2026, generating 1,300 jobs. In Piauí, the stretch is only awaiting a license from Ibama (documentation submitted in November 2025). In Pernambuco, 126 km are missing in two lots, with contracts scheduled for 2026. The investments are guaranteed: R$ 3.6 billion in 2023 to reactivate works, R$ 3.6 billion from Sudene in November 2024, R$ 2 billion in December 2025 for lots 9 and 10, and R$ 152.4 million in March 2026. For the first time, all lots are contracted, financing is guaranteed, and there are no significant obstacles. The history has been brutal: construction began in 2006, scheduled for 2010. In 2017, the TCU (Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts) suspended funding due to irregularities. Only in 2019 was there a partial resumption with private resources. In 2022, the TCU released funds. In 2023, there was finally an accelerated resumption — 14 years behind schedule beyond the original deadline. When completed, the railway will add R$ 7 billion annually to the Northeast's GDP, reduce transportation costs by 30%, and benefit 1,000 municipalities where 48% of the region's population lives. The Transnordestina railway will be 1,206 km long, connecting production areas to the Port of Pecém. After 20 years, completion is not a promise — it is a real schedule with partial operation already functioning. #Transnordestina #Railroad #Northeast #Logistics #Infrastructure #Ceara #Piaui #Pernambuco #PortofPecem #Development #PublicWorks #MEGABAHIA #Brazil #Transportation #ProductionFlow #PublicInvestment
