Eurolaul 1996 | Full show

Estonia's national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. Hosted by Marko Reikop and Karmel Eikner. Winning song: "Kaelakee hääl", sung by Maarja-Liis Ilus and Ivo Linna. All songs were performed in playback, with some participants not even being present at the venue, like winner Ivo Linna, who was shown on a screen. The situation also made for the unusual performance of the song "Maatütre tants", where its singer Kirile Loo was not present and only lights were shown. Maarja-Liis Ilus and Ivo Linna originally tied for first place with singer Kadri Hunt on 62 points. However, after a review of the voting, Maarja-Liis and Ivo were announced as the winners, since they had received one top vote of 10 points, whereas Kadri Hunt hadn't received any. The winning song went to the Eurovision Song Contest, where it qualified from the audio-only pre-qualification round, being 5th. Then, it went to the final, where it also placed 5th.
