This allowed the company to also offer consulting and design services in this sector: in 1937, for example, the municipality of Parma entrusted ATM with the drafting of a study for the replacement of the urban network with trolleybuses, completed in 1939. In the post-war period, after the reconstruction period, public transport by rubber was strengthened and in 1964 the first metro line (the red line) was inaugurated, on which work had begun in 1957, with 21 stations, from Lotto to Sesto Marelli. In 1969 the second metro line, the green one, entered service, with 8 stations between Caiazzo and Cascina Gobba. On 1 January 1965 ATM changed its name to Azienda Trasporti Municipali. During this period it reviewed the entire public network, expanded the metro network and introduced new high-capacity vehicles (the so-called "jumbotrams"). From 3 March 1974 the ticket collector disappeared from the vehicles. Between the late 1970s and early 1980s, the president of ATM was Giacomo Properzj. During this period, new sections of the subway were inaugurated (including the new Molino Dorino terminus/interchange terminal) and excavations began for the third subway line (the yellow line). There is a scene set on the subway in the Ramazzotti bitter advertisement containing the famous slogan Milano da bere, which over the years became the expression typically used to generally indicate the social environments of Milan in the 1980s. In 1990, the third subway line (the yellow line) was opened and the other two were extended, while ATM equipped itself with less polluting vehicles and increased electric-powered transport. In 1992, tram line 15 arrived in Rozzano, a municipality in the first belt of the city's hinterland, the first Milanese tram to leave the municipal boundaries. In 1999, it changed its name again to Azienda Trasporti Milanesi and was called "azienda speciale". In 2001 it became a joint stock company.
