Feiger Kulturkampf: DAS KANU DES MANITU – Kritik & Analyse

Michael Bully Herbig as Abahachi and Winnetouch, Christian Tramitz as Ranger, Rick Kavanian as Dimitri, and Sky du Mont as Santa Maria: Only Marie Bäumer apparently wasn't up for it. Understandable. "Manitu's Canoe" is the pointless sequel to "Manitu's Shoe." It's been 24 years since its success, and building on that success will likely be difficult. Not only have viewing habits changed, the audience has grown older, and it's difficult to reach a new one with a Winnetou parody, but the second film also lacks any originality. It leans heavily on the original, repeats its lame jokes, and then, to top it all off, rather cowardly interferes in current debates about political correctness and cultural appropriation. There's nothing provocative about it, and you'll look in vain for punchlines. Merely a little murmuring—"Is it still okay to say that?!"—is intended to reassure the audience, as flexible as a railroad track, that they're on the side of reason. With this film, Bully once again aims for the mainstream of the mainstream, but at times acts as if this were an act of resistance. More on this from Wolfgang M.
