Today we speak of one of the businessmen of the sisterly United Arab Emirates who left his mark in several fields, including economic and commercial work, education, Islamic banking, and charitable endeavors. The late Saeed bin Ahmed bin Nasser bin Obaid Al Lootah, born in the Emirate of Dubai in 1923, is a man whose name is etched in gold in the annals of history of Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, the Arab world, and internationally. We will focus on his early life (as we cannot possibly cover his rich and varied achievements) in this brief account. The late Saeed bin Ahmed bin Lootah began his working life at a young age, assisting his father in the pearl trade. He was not yet twelve years old at the time and quickly became an expert in buying and selling pearls. He even captained a sailing ship in the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean when he was just eighteen. He received numerous awards and certificates of appreciation, including the Islamic Economics Award for founding the first Islamic bank in the world, with special recognition from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, passed away on January 14, 2015. He died on June 28, 2020, after a long life, during which he dedicated eight decades to serving his country and its people. He was not only a businessman but also a poet and writer, and his numerous works have enriched libraries. May God have mercy on him and grant him Paradise.
