The filter, in particular, should be blown out or washed regularly to ensure proper airflow. Of course, it could also simply be due to a blockage in the air system. So take a close look at everything or blow it out with compressed air. If all else fails, it's best to disassemble the cyclone and check whether the drive unit alone is working properly. If it isn't, a new motor is probably needed, as it's likely due to corrosion damage on the circuit board.
