Russell Remixes Def Leppard: Photograph

Episode 15: Photograph is one of those all-time classic rock songs that launched a band to mega stardom, and upon listening closely you'll understand why. Every note, hook, chorus and choice of instrumentation was meticulously thought out. Mutt Lange created a signature sound for the band consisting of lush harmonies (at the time, who would have thought in a heavy metal rock group???), carefully-constructed guitar riffs, classic 80s gated drums and all supported by discreet synthesizers to fatten the overall sound. It almost feel sacrilegious to break apart this song in a remix. But the intent of this remix is to reduce some instrumentation so that you can appreciate some of the other instrumentation that gets lost in the final mix. I added some additional compression, added some phasers and flangers to certain guitar parts for emphasis and remastered the entire mix using my new favorite plug-in "Crema". Oh, and please forgive the creative liberties taken with the production, adding a guitar interlude near the end. Enjoy this classic!
