Today we are in the beautiful island of Oahu in Hawaii and we are eating at Duke’s Waikiki Restaurant and bar in the heart of Honolulu..... This is restaurant was built in honor of a legend, Duke Kahanamoku. He was a native Hawaiian, a six-time Olympic swimming and water polo medalist and the father of modern day surfing. In 1929, Duke rode a monster wave for 1 and 1/8 miles at Waikiki. Duke’s Waikiki honors his legacy by celebrating his love for water sports, his charismatic personality and his contributions to Hawaiian culture. The restaurant’s décor is a visual homage to Duke, featuring vintage photographs, surfboards, and memorabilia that tell the story of this life and achievements. Today there are 6 Duke’s restaurants each on a unique waterfront site. Three of them are in California and 3 in Hawaii. Duke’s restaurant is located at 2335 Kalakaua avenue in Honolulu inside the Outrigger Waikiki beach resort on the first floor. It is an iconic culinary restaurant on the shores of Waikiki beach and the views are spectacular. It is renowned for its oceanfront dining experience, no matter where you sit you will be able to see the beach. Here you can explore the restaurant’s interior full with memorabilia of Duke.
