After Sixteen Candles, Schoeffling found work in a variety of projects, including the popular film, Vision Quest. It seemed as if he was headed to mega-stardom, but things never went in that direction. He was in several movies in a row that flopped, and even when he was cast in one that was a hit, like 1990’s Mermaids, his role went unnoticed. And so, he decided to call it quits. And he didn’t just switch to another career within the Hollywood sphere. He went about as far away from acting as possible, becoming a furniture maker! He has reportedly spent the last couple of decades honing that craft and running an independent business in his native state of Pennsylvania.
