Memories of Kusu Keramat in Kusu Island

Kusu Island, Is located at Southern shore of Singapore, is accessible only by ferry at Marina south pier. Kusu means "Tortoise" or "Turtle" in Hokkien. In Tamil Kusu means “Flatulence”💨 💨💨 A fire on Sunday April 17 2022 evening ravaged a cluster of shrines situated on top of a hill on Kusu Island. It was saddened to hear about the fire on the Malay Shrines.We visited there 2 months ago with my family. It is such a lovely and beautiful place. In this video Iam sharing about the memories of Kusu Kramat. KRAMAT or KERAMAT means Holy Shrines. THE KUSU KRAMAT’S HISTORY : —————————————————- At the top of a rugged hill top climb of 152 steps stands three holy shrines called ‘Kramats’ of the Malay Saints. The Kramats were built to Comemorate a pious family named Syed Abdul Rahman, his mother, Nenek Ghalib, and his sister, Puteri Fatimah. who lived in 19th century. Devotees to the Kramat would pray for blessings of wealth, marriage, fertility, harmony and good health. The shrines are also popular with childless couple seekingto start a family. Inscriptions at the shrines have revealed that Nenek Ghalib had visited a Chinese man, Hoe Beng Whatt, in his dreams in 1917, and requested that the shrines be built. To reward him as well as donors who contributed financially to the construction of the shrines, Nenek Ghalib would bestow success upon the shrines, said to have been built in the early 1920s, are also visited by devotees who make the trip to Kusu Island to visit the Chinese Da Bo Gong called Tua Pek Kong Temple. The Chinese temple and Malay shrines are looked after by caretakers a role that has been passed down the generations within families. At the shrines, blessings by the caretakers are chanted in a mixture of Hokkien and Malay, while devotees burn joss paper and other offerings. Hope it can be restored soon🙏🏻 #kusuisland #kusukeramat
