The Part of Film Photography Nobody Shows You | Color Printing BTS
In today's video, I take you behind the scenes of two of the most important and often overlooked parts of the film photography process: building a physical negative archive and making color darkroom prints. We start at home, where I walk you through my personal negative archive and talk about why keeping a physical archive matters more than ever in a digital world. Then we head over to Nice Film Club, where I sit down with darkroom printer Ian Shiff to watch him work his magic. Ian breaks down the process behind making 4 of my color prints, from reading the negative to dialing in the color balance and exposure in the darkroom. It's a process that's part science, part intuition, and 100% worth understanding if you shoot film. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this video you'll see: Why a physical negative archive is essential for every film photographer How I organize and store my negatives Behind the scenes at Nice Film Club Ian Shiff on the craft of color darkroom printing The process behind printing 4 of my color prints ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW ALONG! 📷 Instagram: / jaredtapy ✉️ Substack: https://substack.com/@jaredthomastapy 🌐 Portfolio: https://www.jaredthomastapy.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🎞️ Nice Film Club — Use code "NFCJARED" for 10% off your order 📸 Ian Shiff — @ianshiff on Instagram ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #photography #photographer #streetphotography #streetphotographer #documentaryphotography #photojournalism #photographyphilosophy #learnphotography #photographytips #photographyeducation #filmphotography #analogphotography #35mmfilm #filmisnotdead #shootfilm #nycphotographer #newyorkphotography #nycstreetphotography #newyorkcitylife #madeinnyc #nycartist
