Named after the iconic Grateful Dead song, this 12ft x 36ft ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) serves as a sanctuary for Tara and Brian, who traded traditional housing for a lifestyle focused on nature, efficiency, and intentional living. In this video, we tour every inch of this modern tiny house, from the functional kitchen and cozy living area to the spa-like bathroom and forest-view bedroom. Modern Amenities in a Small Footprint Despite the "teeny" label, this home is packed with high-end features and clever small space storage solutions: Gourmet Kitchen: Featuring a large island, farmstyle sink, and ample counter space for meal prepping and baking. Cozy Living Room: A custom-built couch with integrated storage, a flickering electric fireplace, and a dedicated reading nook. Spa Bathroom: A surprisingly large soaking tub positioned under a window to provide views of the surrounding trees while you unwind. Comfortable Bedroom: A queen-sized bed with a skylight for stargazing (and tree-watching) and massive amounts of built-in storage. Sustainable Living and Off-Grid Solutions Living in the middle of a forest required creative thinking. The owners discuss the realities of tiny home utility costs, which average only $100 per month. Water System: A 2500-gallon water tank that lasts up to six months. Climate Control: Central HVAC supplemented by a fireplace and space heater for rapid heating in the Oregon winters. Exterior Design: Utilizing Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood) to protect the home from coastal elements without chemical finishes. The Foundation: How they navigated city regulations to place a permanent structure on a $30,000 forest lot. Tiny House Inspiration and Design The home was crafted by True Form Tiny Homes, known for their expertise in functional aesthetics. By choosing a smaller footprint, Tara and Brian reduced their environmental impact and financial stress, allowing them to focus on spiritual growth and connection. Whether you are interested in downsizing, minimalism, or the tiny house movement, Terrapin Station offers a blueprint for how to build a dream home without breaking the bank or harming the environment.
