Dine Aid Waltham is a fundraising initiative created by the Museum to provide support to independent restaurants and their people in need due to the extreme financial stress of the coronavirus pandemic. The Museum is deeply grateful to the artists for their support of this urgent community effort. Thank you to FAIRBANK & PERRY GOLDSMITHS for their sponsorship of this season of the 2nd SHIFT CHRIS SMITHER https://smither.com/ After his childhood in New Orleans, Chris Smither headed north to break into the New England coffeehouse scene at the suggestion of Eric Von Schmidt. And boy did he ever, and then some. Smither’s highly unique performance style—filigreed leads skittering atop thumb-thumping bass, a mic on his feet to amplify the backbeat—would be captivating even if he never opened his mouth. That he writes some of the most eloquent, philosophical lyrics going and delivers them in a troubadour’s wizened voice just sweetens the deal. Smither’s songs have been recorded by Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, and perhaps most notably, Bonnie Raitt (“Love Me Like A Man”), but there’s nothing like hearing the man deliver them himself. Chris Smither is a true musical legend and we are so honored to host him for the penultimate show in our Spring 2021 series.
