Kulintang Ensemble | EPIKu

Arranged by Kundiman Langit, Performed during my Graduation Recital last May 2018 EPIKu: Hugpong sa Kagkulintang A creative piece for the Kulintangan ensemble featuring kulintang exhibitions. The title EPIKu comes from the combination of the word Epic and the first two letters of Kulintang. ________________________________________________________________ The piece is divided into 3 parts. The first part highlights the skill, showmanship, and mastery of playing the kulintang. It features an exhibition piece called Sirong a Binagu. The second part starts by blending together Tidtu Paganay a Maguindanaon kulintang piece and Tungkil, a piece used to accompany the Tausug fingernail dance called pangalay. The third part of the piece combines Tidtu Paganay of the Maguindanaon and Kadsagurongan of the Maranao whose Kulintang music has endured throughout the ages. Kagkulintang is the Maguindanaon term for the act of playing the kulintang. Therefore an epic connection and combination of kulintang playing.
