Человек не сможет понять вечных истин, пока не освободится от претензий. Парамаханса Йогананда
Paramahansa Yogananda (January 5, 1893 – March 7, 1952) was an Indian yogi who played a significant role in spreading the ancient spiritual practice of Kriya Yoga to the West. In his famous book, Autobiography of a Yogi, Yogananda, through his own example and that of his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, describes the ideal life of a yogi dedicated to serving God and humanity. Yogananda founded two non-profit societies uniting all religions: the Self-Realization Fellowship, with its international headquarters in the United States, and the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, with its central administration in India. Famous people inspired by Yogananda's ideas included Beatles guitarist George Harrison, opera singer Amelita Galli-Curci, and renowned American plant breeder Luther Burbank, whose one unusual achievement was persuading a cactus to remove its spines. And Apple founder Steve Jobs. Walter Isaacson, the author of Jobs's biography, claims that Autobiography of a Yogi was the only book on Steve's iPad: "...More tellingly, he downloaded only one book—Autobiography of a Yogi, about meditation and spirituality, which he first read as a teenager, then again in India, and reread every year since." Furthermore, the entrepreneur's close friend, billionaire Marc Benioff, revealed that before his death, Jobs requested that boxes of Autobiography of a Yogi be handed out at the exit of his memorial service. Paramahansa Yogananda was born into a devout Hindu family. His father, Bhagabati Charan Ghosh, was vice president of the Bengal-Nagpur Railway, and his mother, Gyana Prabha Ghosh, was a housewife. Both parents belonged to the Kshatriya caste and were disciples of the saint Lahiri Mahasaya. Besides Yogananda, there were seven other children in the family, all of whom were raised under strict discipline. The father, despite his high position, was modest and disinterested in worldly pleasures, preferring to seek wisdom in the Bhagavad Gita. After his mother's death, his father assumed all household responsibilities, refusing the services of a maid. After his mother's death, Yogananda, who had already demonstrated intense religious fervor, decided to devote his life entirely to the search for God. After a long search for a suitable spiritual mentor, in 1910 he met his future guru, Sri Yukteswar. Yogananda spent the next ten years at his ashram. Sri Yukteswar not only taught him the intricacies of Kriya Yoga but also explained the essence of Christian teachings, believing that there was a profound connection between Hindu and Christian scriptures. It was at the ashram that Yogananda first experienced "cosmic consciousness." When Swami Yogananda was spiritually mature enough to spread the science of Kriya Yoga in the West, he accepted an invitation to the International Congress of Religious Liberals in Boston in 1920. There, he delivered his famous lecture, "Religion as a Science," which was later published as a book. The lecture was such a success that Yogananda decided to remain in Boston for three years to continue lecturing and initiating all who wished into Kriya Yoga. In 1924, he began a major transcontinental lecture tour across the United States. His fame spread so quickly that by 1927, he met with US President Calvin Coolidge at the White House. During his lifetime, Paramahansa Yogananda, later called the father of yoga in the West, initiated 100,000 people into Kriya Yoga. His organization, Self-Realization Fellowship, currently has over 500 temples and meditation circles worldwide, and his classes, which teach ancient techniques of concentration and meditation, are available in seven languages. Paramahansa Yogananda died in Los Angeles on March 7, 1952, after delivering a speech at a banquet honoring Indian Ambassador Binyamin Sen. He is said to have achieved mahasamadhi, or consciously left his body, as his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, and paramguru, Lahiri Mahasaya, had done before him. He had previously repeatedly predicted that he would die "standing on his feet, talking about God and India." Yogananda is buried in the "star cemetery" of Forest Lawn. The morgue director at this memorial park, Harry Rowe, wrote in a notarized note that even three weeks after Yogananda's death, his body showed no signs of decay, which in itself is a unique phenomenon. ✅ Subscribe to the channel ✅ TikTok - / vselennayavnutritebya 🎬 Video by Pixabay License, Pexels License 🔊 Voiced by AI
