So you can connect the alternator directly to the lithium battery, as long as the regulator can be programmed appropriately for lithium batteries and to protect the alternator in case of overheating. 2️⃣ Another reason why connecting the alternator directly is not a good idea is that it could send too much current to the battery, risking damaging it. This is especially true with small batteries (low capacity) and very powerful alternators. In some cases (drop-in batteries, with an internal BMS), the BMS could intervene, disconnecting the battery from the system.
