This message reminds us of the urgent need to prepare ourselves spiritually and temporally for the prophesied events that will precede the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Lord has promised that “if ye are prepared ye shall not fear” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:30), and this preparation is a personal and ongoing responsibility. The scriptures, both biblical and modern, teach that although no one knows the day or the hour of the Lord’s coming, the faithful are called to study the signs and be ready. Among these signs are the restoration of the gospel, wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, pestilences, increasing wickedness, and a great spiritual and temporal upheaval throughout the earth. The message emphasizes that many of these signs are the voice of the Lord calling His children to repentance. It also teaches about the gathering of the faithful into stakes and temples, which serve as a spiritual defense and refuge in times of trouble. Through the parable of the ten virgins, it is emphasized that it is not enough to know the gospel or be part of the Church: it is essential to be spiritually prepared, with our lamps full of oil. The easiest preparation to neglect is spiritual, but it is the most important and of greatest eternal value. This message invites each person to examine their life, their covenants, and their relationship with the Lord, and to ask themselves: if today were the day we met Christ, would we be prepared? The righteous have no reason to fear.
