the old gods method
Lessons learned: An ambitious project, but that really added to the pain of trimming it down. The whole thing changed by the end. I think it would benefit everyone if I did smaller projects and built up, and actually plan out the big projects, because unfortunately I don’t think I learned all that much from the massive amounts of footage I edited, not more than I would have finishing a shorter video. The big lesson I could have learned from a smaller video is the whole talking head video essay vs voiceover vlog vs no narration vlog: mixing media is really something I need to practice before I can say I do it well. I don’t do any of the three particularly perfectly yet, so doing all three at once is destined for a lot of work for not that much magnum in my opus. If I’m writing a script to read to the camera, holding the mic means less sound of walls, and memorising one paragraph at a time massively improves how monotone I sound and how wack I look. Just favourite each successful take and delete the others after. Use a clicker to stop start filming. That’s about it.
