Rex Heuermann's home: 3D model

This is a 3D model of the house of suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann. I built this model using the original blueprints, photographs, and information from people who are familiar with the inside of the home. A description of the utility room: Heuermann's basement was divided up into various rooms and closets. Most of these rooms had gypsum board and wooden wall paneling of various types. The completion of these rooms likely occurred at different time periods. When you walked down the basement stairs from the kitchen, you entered a carridor-like area. It had wood paneling on the wall, a finished ceiling, carpet, closets/small rooms, a couch, and a bar in the corner. This wasn't a scary place. It was like a den or a hangout spot. Dated, but cozy. The area that the task force reportedly focused on during the second search was on the left side of the basement, underneath the living room. This room was accessible from the "carridor den". The door was directly on your right when you walked down the stairs. Unlike the other rooms, this was a large, dark, and dirty utility room that had very little in it except an old water heater and some common household items. The beams/rafters were exposed, as this particular room was completely unfinished. It was probably untouched since the house was built in the 1950s. At the time, there was no wood paneling or flooring. However, it is likely that this room was "finished" at a later date, as Asa Ellerup's lawyer, Robert Macedonio, said that the task force ripped out wood paneling and workbenches from the room. The utility room provided Heuermann with access to a 3-foot-high crawlspace underneath the den.
