Here, the YBC reporter experienced the "Chilled Shampoo" for the first time in their life. First, a bottle of ice-cold "chilled shampoo" was taken out of the refrigerator. Experience: "It's colder than I expected," "It penetrates deep into my head." But the chilled shampoo experience doesn't end there. Next came a frozen shampoo, reduced to a sherbet-like consistency. "Chilled shampoo" is a summer tradition originating in Yamagata Prefecture, offered annually since 2004 by the Chilled Shampoo Promotion Council "Hiyashibito" at barbershops throughout the prefecture. This season, the chilled shampoo service will begin simultaneously at approximately 300 shops throughout the prefecture from the 18th. High temperatures were recorded in various locations, including 32 degrees Celsius in Shinjo, 31.8 degrees in Yonezawa, and 31.4 degrees in Yamagata, with 13 locations in the prefecture experiencing summer-like temperatures. While cloudy skies and rain are expected on the 18th due to a trough of low pressure, the meteorological observatory predicts high temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius in Shonai and 28 degrees Celsius in Murayama and Okitama, making it a hot day. Jun Akagi of Tsukasa Barbershop: "We hope that our chilled shampoo will help people relax and enjoy themselves this summer as a way to beat the summer heat and refresh themselves. We also hope that people will use it as a cool spot." Furthermore, starting in 2026, a "chilled mist" to be applied to the face and arms will be introduced to allow customers to cool down immediately upon entering the shop for the "chilled shampoo."
