'Melbourne' released 1997, from the album Eternal Nightcap, remixed for Truth Beauty and a Picture of You. The title of the album “Eternal Nightcap” was my mundane version of Nietzsche's philosophy of eternal return. It would be hell drinking to someone forever if you didn't like them, or didn't like a drink. It reeks of saying goodbye and doing it drunk. The perfect title for the album I still think. In this song when I sing “If I had three lives I'd marry her in two” I'm thinking of the same ideas. The verse chords and melody came in an encore jam at the Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour a few years before. It's a love song of course, about a kooky girl. All true, except the pictures on the wall were actually pinned to the wall and they were maps of the neighbourhood streets defined by types of tree - for the dog, who was no better at reading maps than any average dog is.
