Urlaub im Saarland - Saarschleife bis Hunsrück - Best of Germany

Beautiful Saarland: The Saar Loop near Mettlach, the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site, and an idyllic hike to the Celtic ringfort in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. Have you ever been to Saarland? What did you think? Do you have any other tips? Share your experiences and recommendations in the comments! We start at the foot of the Saar Loop near Mettlach. We're staying at the Saarschleifen-Lodge right on the riverbank. I have a duplex apartment. The bed is upstairs, and I already have a fantastic view of the Saar River from here. From there, we hike up to the Cloef viewpoint. From up there, we have a great view of the Saar Loop. But it gets even better if we climb further. We walk along the treetop path between oaks, beeches, and Douglas firs towards an observation tower. From the top, we have the best view of the impressive loop. It forms almost a complete circle. Every now and then, boats chug by. And the Saar-Hunsrück Trail also runs nearby. It's a long-distance hiking trail, 410 km long. Afterwards, we continue on towards Saarbrücken. There, we visit the primeval forest just outside the city. For over 10 years, this forest area has been left to its own devices, leaving behind a mystical, wild woodland landscape. And right in the middle of it all rises the Little Fuji. The conical spoil heap is now also overgrown, so we only have a view of another spoil heap. Very close by is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Völklingen Ironworks. The landscape of steel and iron reminds me of the setting of a dystopian film, where only desert and steppe remain on our planet. And then, in between, a few iron buildings rise up. During the Industrial Revolution, the Völklingen Ironworks was an important ironworks. At its peak, 17,000 people worked here simultaneously, producing up to 5,000 tons of pig iron per day. We visit the blast furnaces at a height of 45 meters. From here, we have a fantastic view over the gigantic site. Before starting the next day, we fortify ourselves with a delicious currywurst at the Dörsterhof in Wadern. Then we continue our hike in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. We hike along a section of the Dollberg Loop to the Celtic ringfort. Along the way, we pass through a pristine forest, enjoy a stunning view of the Nonnweiler Reservoir, and then reach the imposing remains of the gigantic wall. At its highest point, it still stands up to 12 meters high and 40 meters wide. During Roman times, in the 1st century BC, it served as a defensive wall and was both famous and infamous. Even Julius Caesar knew about it. At the end of the day, we reach Lake Losheim. The "Outdoors by the Lake" outdoor festival is taking place here this coming weekend. There are workshops, lectures, and concerts. Tickets are still available. My fellow YouTuber @Marius_Quast will also be there and will be reporting on the event. You can check out his channel afterward. I'm winding down the day at the lake and enjoying the cool water. Please give me a thumbs up if you liked the video and don't forget to subscribe. Thanks for watching and see you next time! :)
