LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST’S ROSE VALLEY FALLS HIKE

The Rose Valley Falls Trail is one of Southern California’s best short waterfall hikes, located in the northern part of Ojai within Los Padres National Forest. The trail starts near Rose Valley Campground along scenic Highway 33. Directions from Bakersfield Distance: About 110 miles Drive time: 2 to 2.5 hours Route: 1. Take CA-99 South. 2. Merge onto CA-166 West toward Maricopa. 3. Continue to CA-33 South toward Ojai. 4. Turn onto Rose Valley Road and park near the campground or roadside parking. Directions from Los Angeles Distance: About 90 miles Drive time: 2 to 2.5 hours (depending on traffic) Route: 1. Take US-101 North toward Ventura. 2. Exit onto CA-33 North toward Ojai. 3. Continue about 30 miles through the mountains. 4. Turn right onto Rose Valley Road to reach the trailhead. Hiking Facts Trail length: 0.8 mile round trip (approximately) Difficulty: Easy Elevation gain: About 150 feet Time: 30–45 minutes Family friendly: Yes Dog friendly: Yes (on leash) Best season: Late winter through spring, especially after rainfall when the waterfall is flowing strongly. Interesting Facts The waterfall has a dramatic lower tier of about 100 feet, with a larger upper section that should only be approached by experienced hikers due to loose rock and scrambling. The drive along Highway 33 is one of California’s most scenic mountain roads. Nearby attractions include Piedra Blanca Trailhead, Rose Valley Lake, and additional Sespe Wilderness hiking trails. Tips Arrive early on weekends because parking fills quickly. Bring water and sturdy hiking shoes. Cell service is limited in the area.
