Today in our "All-Electric" series, we're putting the new all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA to the test. This version features a large 85 kWh battery, an 800V architecture, and rear-wheel drive with 272 hp. It's a 4.7-meter sedan with a 500-liter trunk plus an additional 100 liters of front space, and a WLTP range approaching 800 km depending on the configuration. Estimated price: around €55,000. Can this CLA become the ultimate all-electric vehicle? Is it really efficient enough to give the Tesla Model 3 Highland a run for its money? Are we looking at the first electric Mercedes that does everything right? Let's find out. We set off from Madrid towards Valencia in cold, windy, and realistic driving conditions. The display promises a range of 476 km and initial consumption figures of 16-18 kWh/100 km. The reality: a journey at a true 120 km/h with 17.6 kWh/100 km. Yes, you read that right. Unprecedented figures for the brand and clearly in line with the best on the market ⚡️📈. The new MMA platform demonstrates that Mercedes has learned its lesson. Following in the footsteps of the EQC, EQS, and other electric experiments, there's a clear leap forward here. A sophisticated battery with an anode that combines carbon and silicon, an 800V system (but note, no 400V booster), and a rear motor with two speeds to optimize efficiency in any situation. The result: over 400 km of real-world highway range without breaking a sweat. And the ultimate test: the return trip from Valencia to Madrid with a headwind, 3ºC, and a climb towards Utiel. The trip computer predicted 18% range. It seemed optimistic. But the CLA didn't just deliver… it arrived with 81 km remaining 😳. Hats off to them. Dynamically, the suspension is finely tuned: comfortable without being soft, stable without being harsh. Precise steering, immediate acceleration (perhaps too much so in the wet), and stability control working hard when the Bridgestone Turanza tires slip more than expected. Tip: if you live in a rainy area, consider Michelin CrossClimate tires. The regenerative braking system is configurable and allows for almost one-pedal driving. Long-distance comfort is outstanding. Quietness, stability, and efficiency combine to create a truly brilliant package. Inside, we find a very flat design, ready for future hyperscreen displays. Good structural quality (no rattles), but an excess of piano black trim and some questionable choices: a screen partially obscured by the steering wheel, too many touch functions, and a "premium" business model with subscriptions to activate features like 360° cameras or advanced driver assistance systems. Yes, even in a car at this price point 💸. The rear seats are adequate, but not impressive. The multi-energy platform takes its toll on legroom and headroom. It's not an electric C-Class, but it is a very well-balanced sedan. In terms of driver assistance and automatic parking, it's outstanding. The assistant maneuvers the car into real-world spaces, not just those big enough for a bus. Mercedes has done a spectacular job here. In conclusion: this electric CLA doesn't just promise laboratory figures. It delivers on real-world roads, in cold and windy conditions. It's efficient, comfortable, fast, technologically advanced, and aesthetically stunning with its star-shaped light signature. It may not be perfect, but it comes very close to the concept of a fully electric vehicle that we're looking for in this series. 🚗⚡️ Is it the best electric vehicle Mercedes has made to date?
