I Never Wanted To Die On Tour #touringmusician #nashville

🎸 This morning I woke up to the heartbreaking news that longtime bassist Dave Sirmon, a member of Mark Chesnutt's touring band, had passed away on the band's tour bus. The news hit me hard because it touched on something I've been thinking about for a long time. Having spent more than 30 years as a professional guitarist, including roughly 12 years touring, I know firsthand that life on the road can be both exhilarating and unforgiving. The audience sees the concert, the lights, and the applause. They rarely see the overnight drives, the lack of sleep, the fast-food dinners, the missed birthdays, the holidays away from home, and the physical toll that years of touring can take. In this heartfelt studio conversation, I reflect on what the road gave me, what it took from me, and why my definition of success has changed over the years. As musicians, we spend so much of our lives chasing the next gig, the next city, and the next opportunity that we sometimes forget the most important question: What are we really trying to get home to? This isn't just a conversation about one tragic event. It's about the reality of life as a touring musician, the lessons we learn along the way, and why every sunrise, every moment with family, and every day we're given is something we should never take for granted. To close the video, I perform an original Nashville-inspired acoustic instrumental on my Taylor acoustic guitar through the Blackstar Polar Go as a tribute to Dave Sirmon. During the performance, I share information about Dave's Celebration of Life, which will be held on August 2 at The Troubadour in Nashville, with proceeds from a live auction benefiting Dave's family. My heartfelt condolences go out to Dave's family, Mark Chesnutt, his bandmates, and everyone whose lives Dave touched through his music. Thank you for watching, and if this conversation speaks to you, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. #DaveSirmon #MarkChesnutt #tourlife #musicbusiness #nashville #professionalmusician #guitarist #countrymusic #lifelessons #TaylorGuitars #Blackstar #acousticguitar #BadBrad
