First Day Back to School in Kharkiv: Underground Classrooms Keep Children Safe Amid War | APT

In Kharkiv, Ukraine, children returned to school for the first time this year, attending newly built underground classrooms designed to protect them from ongoing conflict. Anastasia Pocherina, mother of six-year-old Maria Yakunkina, said: “Today, my child, she is a first grader, she came to school for the first time, an underground school… That’s why I believe it is safe.” Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov added: “Some 17,000 children will be able to attend school in person… We have built seven schools underground and converted six metro stations into classrooms.” The initiative gives students access to normal education while maintaining safety amid air raid alerts and ongoing conflict near the Russian border. #Kharkiv, #Ukraine, #UndergroundSchools, #SafeEducation, #ChildrenInWar, #KharkivSchools, #FirstDayOfSchool, #WarInUkraine, #KharkivMayor, #AirRaidAlert, #EducationMatters, #NovaSaltivka, #UkraineConflict
