FLOPPED: The Next Sports Star FREDDY ADU Stunted Growth Story

Today’s feature is one of the most disappointing sports stories on a national stage in athletic history. It’s also the story of how one kid may have saved the lives of countless individuals and organizations, some of which used his insanely before its time talent for fame and of course money. What happened to Freddy Adu also highlights one of the major pitfalls of sports in general, particularly pro sports in their eagerness to be first in discovering the next great talent, as young as possible. It’s the story of the American dream. Of any dream for that matter. Who doesn’t want what they want as quick as possible and with less use as well. In sports these cases are called prodigies. As humans we have to accept that we love a good fantasy. Something that takes us away from the pressures of the world and allows us to live vicariously in another seemingly perfect world. Usually in that fantasy of the perfect world, if we could create it ourselves, would probably almost always begin with creating a future star as young as we can. Along came Freddy Adu. Although not born in America, and only having lived in the country for a few years before his notoriety, Freddy Adu was adopted as the next American dream. He became an official American citizen in 2003 at 13 years old. Of course the term American dream much like Freddy’s career never comes true in the end, and plays on another lovely past time of human nature, witnessing a great, climactic fall from grace into disappointment. Of course Adu would go on to have an ok soccer career, but compared to the expectations placed on him, many believe he was a BUST. One of the biggest in sports history. 3 reasons Freddy Adu FLOPPED!
