[Earth Heroes] Today's protagonist is General Douglas MacArthur, a representative soldier of the 20th century who spearheaded the Pacific War and the Korean War. During World War II, MacArthur led the Allied Forces in key battles, including the recapture of the Philippines, and is credited with turning the tide of the war in the Pacific. After the war, he oversaw the occupation and reconstruction of Japan, and, unusually for a military officer, led the establishment of a new system for the nation. Through this period, defeated Japan was reborn as a completely different nation. With the outbreak of the Korean War, MacArthur returned to the forefront. The success of the Incheon Landing Operation instantly turned the tide of the war, and the recapture of Seoul and the advance northward once again established him as a "symbol of war." However, regardless of military achievements, conflicts deepened over the strategy and political decisions surrounding the war, and the decision to dismiss him ultimately marked another turning point in his life.
