Mini Birch Tree Watercolor with Water & Rocks | Part 2 of My 3-Painting Series with Lynda Norman
Welcome, accomplices. In Part 2 of this miniature watercolor series, I’m creating the second birch tree painting that will eventually sit inside a triple-matted frame with two companions. This time I changed the composition slightly, placing the birch trees to the left and introducing water, distant forest shapes, and a few simple rocks along the shoreline. Using a limited palette of ultramarine blue, Mayan dark blue, yellow ochre, and undersea green, I show how these colours can mix and granulate to create soft natural textures in the landscape. We also talk about using masking tape instead of masking fluid, how to lift pigment gently, and how small touches of colour can bring life and depth to a very small painting. Sometimes these quick little paintings feel like therapy — just letting the watercolor move and seeing what appears. This is Part 2 of a three-part birch series. Stay tuned for the final painting that will complete the framed set.
