Scalpel Machine and Layer Planting The Scalpel machine, developed by Edilson Maia, is used for layer planting, a method that allows sugarcane field regeneration without the need for new seedlings. With this technique, the stalks are partially buried to induce rooting and stimulate new shoots. During the machine's use, the following products are applied to ensure the success of the process: Humic and fulvic acids – Improve soil structure and increase nutrient absorption. Fertilizer 25 – Provides essential macronutrients for sugarcane. Calcium hydroxide and organic hydroxides – Correct soil acidity and promote root development. Insecticide and fungicide – Protect against pests and diseases that can compromise plant regeneration. With this protocol, Edilson is betting that sugarcane plantation renewal can be postponed for several production cycles, reducing costs and making production more sustainable.
