Few issues divide Europe more than migration policy. Since the 2015 refugee crisis, the EU's stance has shifted: from a welcoming culture to a policy of isolation. Julia Rech and Ulf Röller's documentary explores whether the EU's new policy of isolation is sacrificing human rights. They look behind the scenes in Brussels, at Europe's external borders, and into the transit countries. The filmmakers accompany EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson to Brussels and Berlin. Johansson aims to make the Global Compact for Migration a success. In Berlin, she visits not only German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser but also the Tegel reception center, which is overflowing with more than 4,000 refugees. Many come from Ukraine; they are waiting for housing, some for over a year. Life is lived in tent cities, in a small cabin with 13 other people and two dogs. The bunk bed is their only privacy.
