Difesa ON AIR: "Iniziativa, lo spirito del campo di battaglia nel rispetto della missione"

Initiative, at all hierarchical levels (in alignment with the purpose of an action), always wins. In military doctrine, "Mission Command" is defined as "decentralized command": it is a command and control process that—within the limits of the assigned "mission"—assigns initiative to subordinate commanders. It involves clearly formulated orders with clear objectives, yet not binding on how the action should be executed, and with specific organizational provisions, such as adequate reserves to sustain unexpected success, should it arise due to the intelligent initiative taken in the field by a subordinate commander. The process stems from the need to inject dynamism into a maneuver for a similar OODA (chain of observation, orientation, decision, and action) of the adversary, thus beating him to the punch, progressively limiting him, and defeating him. When was "tactics by task" theorized and applied? Is this initiative finally the cornerstone of Italian military doctrine? Will technological evolution lead to an increase or reduction in this capability? Have operational experiences supported the introduction of this "freedom" at all hierarchical levels?
