Creating a New Gouache Palette

I'm at it again - creating a new palette out of a non-art case. In this case (no pun intended, or maybe a little bit), I used a mint tin I picked up when I was at the Tate Gallery in St. Ives, Cornwall. I just loved the tin and realized after I got home how it would make a perfect palette. I've been feeling sorry for the gouache that doesn't get used in my drawer in my studio. I tend to not work with tubes, preferring the gouache to be dried in the palette. It means I don't waste it and it's already there and ready for use. I've also experimented with adding a touch of glycerine as previous attempts with this Holbein paint drying in pans has lead to tears. I know others will object to not using gouache straight from the tubes but it works for me and that's what counts at the end of the day. So this is another supplemental gouache palette to my other two (I've even upgraded my second palette with a better business card case from Muji). Basically these are colours that I just like as they are in the third tier category - not always going to be in my travel bag but ready to go anyway. As always, be sure to check out my website. There are a load of things for fellow artists like colour charts that I swatch on this channel available for download as a pdf. There are art book reviews and instructions on how to make your own sketchbook (with video here on YouTube). I also have a list of art shops in different cities including my hometown of Toronto. There are lists of artists who inspire me that you can find on Instagram or YouTube as well as others you’ll find in art history books. I also provide a list of art related podcasts and online courses. You can also see what I take when I'm urban sketching. And you can purchase handmade watercolour through my website! So much for you for all things art. https://www.eileenreillyarts.com/ or follow me on Instagram @eileenreillyarts and @ot.to_watercolour Chapters: 00:00 intro 06:50 tin prepared 16:00 loading the pans 22:45 preparing to swatch 23:51 swatching 26:44 final swatch
