Four Tahoe compatible models miss out: the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019), 13-inch MacBook Pro with four Thunderbolt 3 ports (2020), 2020 iMac, and 2019 Mac Pro. Golden Gate is also the last version with full Rosetta 2 support. iPadOS 27 raises its hardware floor to the A14 Bionic/M1, cutting the 5th gen iPad mini, 8th gen iPad, 3rd gen iPad Air, 1st gen 11-inch iPad Pro, and 3rd gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro. watchOS 27 makes the steepest cuts in Apple Watch history, dropping the Series 6, 7, 8, original Ultra, and 2nd gen SE all at once; only Series 9, 10, 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3 remain supported. tvOS 27 drops the 2015 Apple TV HD and 2017 1st gen Apple TV 4K, leaving only the 2nd and 3rd gen 4K boxes. In iOS 27, notifications slide in from the left instead of dropping from the top, and reaching Notification Center now requires swiping from the top left rather than center, freeing that gesture for Siri. Other changes include colorful sidebar icons, real time widget updates, extra large Home Screen widgets, and web audio that no longer interrupts system audio. The centerpiece is Siri AI, replacing Spotlight with a "Search or Ask" interface accessed by swiping down from the center. Siri tone matches a user's writing style when composing messages. The pill shaped Siri indicator appears to be a workaround for current Dynamic Island constraints; a smaller Island on the iPhone 18 Pro could let it become a true circle. On the Apple Watch, Siri AI needs pairing with an Apple Intelligence capable iPhone. In the EU, Siri AI launches on macOS and visionOS but not iPhone or iPad. Apple Intelligence also gets smarter Writing Tools and a Mail/Messages composition assistant that adapts to each contact. Genmoji adds a "Describe a change" interface plus the ability to start new Genmoji from an existing emoji, photo, or tagged person. Image Playground adds multiple aspect ratios and photorealistic generation. Visual Intelligence gets a new entry point, Siri Mode (Camera Control still works too), expands to iPad and Mac, and now imports multiple calendar events from one flyer photo or contacts from a business card photo. On the Mac, Golden Gate extends toolbars and sidebars to the screen edges with tighter, more consistent corner radii. iPadOS 27 adds Home Screen undo/redo, extra large Today View widgets, an optional persistent menu bar, and Visual Intelligence for screenshots with Pencil highlighting.
