INS Vikrant - Indian dream flagship

INS Vikrant is an aircraft carrier that is about to enter service with the Indian Navy. The first ship of this class, built by India on its own. The aircraft carrier was named Vikrant (Sanskrit for "courageous") - the same name was given to the very first aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, received from the UK in the 1960s. INS Vikrant is the second modern Indian aircraft carrier, the first carrier now operational is the INS Vkiramaditya. Soon, India will start the construction of the third new indigenous aircraft carrier - INS Vishal. The aircraft carrier was built by the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kerala. The work on it began in 1999 and developed and launched in 2013. After a long way of tests, improvements and sea trials it was comissined in 2022. Total cost of the project is approximately US $2.9 billion. INS Vikrant is 262 m (860 ft) long and has a displacement of about 45,000 t.
