Walk for Peace: Buddhist monks and their dog Aloka stop at Wat Phouthasamakhy Lao in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Buddhist monks participating in the 2,300-mile Walk for Peace stopped at Wat Phouthasamakhy Lao in Houston for lunch today as part of their ongoing journey from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. Video shows the monks arriving at the temple with their dog, Aloka, spending time on-site and then continuing their walk as they resumed the next segment of their route. According to organizers, approximately two dozen monks are traveling on foot during the 110-day pilgrimage, which is intended to promote unity, compassion and national healing. The walk began October 26 at the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth and will span 10 states before concluding at the U.S. Capitol on February 13, 2026. The Houston stop is one of several planned community visits along the route, where the monks engage with temples and local residents to share their message of peace before continuing east toward Louisiana and the remaining states on their path.
