In this video, we conclude our 5-part series and provide an easy-to-understand explanation of key criticisms from shooting sports associations during the 2025 gun law evaluation. You'll learn why, from the perspective of many associations, regulations concerning gun reliability and personal suitability under Sections 5 and 6 of the German Weapons Act (WaffG) can have overly far-reaching consequences. Especially in cases of minor offenses, such as improper safe key storage or questions regarding weapons storage, the impression of disproportionate sanctions, even up to the revocation of firearms licenses, can quickly arise. We also examine the storage regulations according to Section 36 of the German Weapons Act (WaffG), the situation in shooting clubs, the use of club weapons, and age limits in shooting sports. Many associations see a significant need for reform in these areas, particularly concerning youth development, membership recruitment, and competitive shooting. Another focus is on how to achieve an objective evaluation of firearms legislation. This involves distinguishing between legal and illegal firearm possession, using reliable data from police crime statistics, utilizing the National Firearms Register, and determining which measures actually improve security. This video concludes the series and demonstrates why many associations are not calling for less security, but rather for proportionate, comprehensible, and enforceable firearms legislation.
