How to back probe #1939
Another of the new 'Basic Skills' family of short videos, this one covers how to use a small pin inserted into the back of a loom connector (loom side) to 'tap into' the electrical circuit in order to capture a live, real time signal whilst the engine is operating. This signal can then be viewed using a range of test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes and fluke meters. This technique is required in order to prevent the ECU flagging more fault codes if sensors are actually disconnected from the system whilst the ignition is turned on. Its an easy technique and really really useful when trying to diagnose engine running faults which could be contributed to either the electronic fuel injection or electronic ignition systems on a modern car, motorcycle or ATV... These 'Basic Skills' videos are NOT meant to be a decisive, all encompassing, training video on teaching you all the various aspects of professional skills, no, not in the slightest! Its a short video showing the basics giving you a starting point on how its done, the tools you need and a few tips along the way... Any questions then please leave them in the comments section below and I'll do my best to get back to you asap... Andy Mechanic!
