Patients undergoing cardiac surgery are confined to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. Due to this period of immobility, the individual is subject to clinical and functional complications. These complications can be avoided by early mobilization; however, in some hospital services this is not yet feasible due to the use of a mediastinal (subxiphoid) drain in the immediate postoperative period.
